Tzatziki Recipe

The tzatziki sauce is the dish I love the most in Greek cuisine. If you’re like me, it’s clear that you can’t get enough of this gorgeous sauce. Through this recipe, I show you how to prepare a traditional Greek tzatziki sauce. I love it and always I wanted to know how to properly make an authentic tzatziki sauce. I am so happy to show you this super simple, super tasty, and super Greek Mediterranean recipe! What could be more pleasant than the taste of Greece at home?

tzatziki authentic recipe

Ingredients

500 g Greek yogurt
2 cucumbers
2 tablespoons of lemon juice
2 garlic cloves
2 tablespoons of olive oil
1/2 teaspoon of oregano
a bunch of fresh dills
5 mint leaves




Method

The most important part when making tzatziki sauce is to remove as much water as possible from the cucumbers. The drier the cucumbers, the better the texture of the tzatziki sauce.

For all the ingredients to mix and combine evenly, it is recommended that the tzatziki sauce be prepared and kept in the refrigerator for several hours before serving. Thus, the garlic and herbs have time to flavor the entire sauce and give it the perfect taste.

  1. Therefore, start by mixing the yogurt with the pressed garlic (you can leave it in the fridge for at least 2 hours or overnight before continuing the recipe. If you don’t have time, you can skip this step but try to mix the composition as well as possible, so that the garlic does not remain only in one part of the sauce).
  2. Continue by removing the skin from the cucumbers and then gave them a fine mesh grater. Set them aside in a bowl while they were removed from the water.
  3. In another bowl, put the Greek yogurt and crushed garlic, lemon juice, and olive oil and mix gently.
  4. Squeeze with your hands the grated cucumbers as well as you could and add them to the composition.
  5. Mix gently and add finely chopped oregano, dill, and mint.

It can be kept in the fridge for 3-4 days – but I don’t think it will last that long as it is sensational. Pay attention to the expiration date of the yogurt you use.
