Smoked Tuna Soup with Cream

This smoked tuna soup with cream is the best soup I’ve eaten since I was “grown-up”, because it reminds me of the taste of my childhood, the taste of home. It is such a flavorful soup and it smells so good that when I prepare it I feel like I am in a famous restaurant. The cream gives the soup a perfect texture, the vegetables balance the taste of the soup and the smoky flavor of the tuna awakens all your senses. This smoked tuna soup with cream is very easy to prepare and is a delicacy that you should enjoy with your family.

Smoked Tuna Soup with Cream

Ingredients

1 kg potatoes
400 g smoked tuna
300 g cream 20% fat
2 large onions
2 carrots
1 bell pepper
1/2 of a medium celery
3 tablespoons of vinegar
1 tablespoon sweet paprika
1 bunch of parsley
2.6 L water and 100 ml olive oil

 




Method

  1. Start by washing all the vegetables well, peeling them (except for the bell pepper, which you need to clean off the seeds and remove as much of the white parts from the inside as possible), and cutting them into small cubes.
  2. Put the olive oil in a large pot, add the finely chopped onion, and turn the heat on medium.
  3. Cook the onion for 5 minutes, then add the carrots and celery. Cook for another 5 minutes after which you need to add the bell pepper. Stir occasionally for another 5 minutes.
  4. Then add the diced potatoes and the water. Cover it with a lid and let it cook for 30 minutes on high heat.
  5. Put the cream in a bowl and gradually add two tablespoons of water from the pot over it, little by little, and mix gently until homogenized. I chose to do it this way because I noticed that when I put the cream directly in the pot, it homogenizes very hard and incompletely. Therefore, after mixing the boiled water with the cream until smooth, I put the whole composition back into the pot.
  6. After the vegetables were cooked, add the diced tuna, sweet paprika, and vinegar. Check if the potatoes are cooked as the cooking time also depends on the variety and the size of the cubes.
  7. Mix well and cook it on low heat for another 10 minutes. Turn off the heat, add the finely chopped parsley, mix well, and cover it with a lid. After 15 minutes, served this delicious soup…it will warm your soul! 🙂

Important suggestions for smoked tuna soup with cream:

To get a perfect soup, it is necessary that the tuna used is of high quality, smoked as naturally as possible, and does not contain a lot of salt. When you taste it raw it can be eaten without having the impression that it is very salty. Because it already contains enough salt, it is important not to add extra salt.
If you feel that the soup needs to be saltier, as it also depends on how much salt the tuna used contains, add a little salt to the bowl when you serve it. As long as it sits in the fridge, the tuna will continue to remove salt and may become slightly saltier each day.

I recommend not adding extra salt to any food anyway and on this blog, you will find most of the recipes without salt in the ingredient list. I like to feel the taste of the food, the taste of the ingredients… not the taste of salt. I don’t understand when someone says that the food has no taste and needs more salt. Yes, it still needs salt to taste salty…wtf makes no sense. 🙂 But unfortunately, that’s how we were taught and worse than that sometimes we stubbornly refuse to accept learning new things.

How long should we consume it, how do we store it and what can we serve it with?

    • The soup can be kept in the fridge for up to three days, but I don’t think it will last that long no matter how small the family for which you are cooking this dish. I remember that I used to eat a bowl of soup in the morning and the evening and it was over quite quickly. I don’t think has happened to me with any other soup. Ah yes, but it happened with a  creamy soup – broccoli cream soup with goat cheese. This soup surprised me. I prepared it wholeheartedly thinking I would spoil the ingredients… but its flavor was infinitely beyond my expectations. It has become my favorite soup. I love it!
    • It needs to be served hot and is perfectly complemented with both a hot fresh red pepper or pickled pepper. I am craving it!
