Pancakes recipe – perfect for breakfast. I wasn’t a fan of pancakes until my cousin started making them almost every weekend and every time she sent me sensational pictures that made me think about them all day… with Nutella, sometimes with berries and maple syrup, sometimes with white chocolate and coconut… delicious :). I love making pancakes for Valentine’s Day too. I think it’s a simple dessert to prepare and the fact that it’s a dessert that can be easily customized with various flavors and textures makes it perfect for any special day. Enjoy this pancake recipe with your loved one.

classic pancakes recipe


150 g of flour
2 teaspoons of baking powder
1 tablespoon of sugar (optional)
1 sachet of vanilla sugar
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 pinch of salt
2 eggs
240 ml of buttermilk
2 teaspoons of vanilla essence
20 g of melted butter
1 teaspoon of oil for greasing the pan


  1. Mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl, namely: flour, baking powder, and sugar optional (I didn’t add them because I served them with maple syrup / Nutella / white chocolate and I didn’t want them to be extra sweet ), vanilla sugar, bicarbonate, and a little salt.
  2. In another bowl mix the liquid ingredients: eggs, buttermilk, vanilla essence, and melted butter. Mixed well with a whisk until the composition became homogeneous.
  3. Add the liquid ingredients over the solid ones and mix them gently with the whisk until the dough became homogeneous. It is necessary not to mix the composition very much, just enough to make the mixture uniform. This way we avoid the pancakes becoming hard.
  4. Put a teaspoon of oil in the hot pan (I only add the teaspoon of oil to the first pancake) and add a spoonful of the composition. With the help of a spoon, shape the composition to form a pancake as round as possible.
  5. When little bubbles appeared on top of the batter in the pan, flip the pancake over and let it cook for a few more seconds on medium to low heat.
  6. Continue the process until the dough was finished and look how simple and quick you can prepare around 16 pancakes.

These are perfect to cook for guests, it’s a tasty dessert, easy and quick to prepare. At the same time, you can impress your guests with the design used to decorate the pancakes.

I usually decorate them separately or even use a metal ring for cooking to create pancakes in the shape of hearts, stars, or even a perfect circle. It is necessary to lightly oil the metal mold before using it. Otherwise, the pancake will stick when you have to turn it to the other side. Be very careful that the mold heats up quite strongly. You have to use a spatula to turn them all together with the metal ring.

I like to use the heart shape on Valentine’s Day or simply when I want to surprise my loved one. I also think that the little ones will enjoy being spoiled with some delicious hearts. And of course, you need to quietly enjoy some pancake hearts, pamper yourself, and feel good, along with a delicious coffee or tea.

The bottom left heart is milk chocolate and coconut. The one on the bottom right is with milk chocolate, a little white chocolate (or you can add a little maple syrup), banana slices, raspberries, and blueberries. The top one, my favorite, is white chocolate, blueberry, raspberry, and coconut.

How do I try to avoid eating pancakes too often?

Although I feel like eating these pancakes for every breakfast, both you and I must limit ourselves to this kind of breakfast – occasionally. Since we can add a lot of calories by enjoying these pancakes often. Therefore, I try to prepare them occasionally, on weekend days when I know I will make more effort than on busy weekdays when I don’t always manage to go for a walk or do sports.

A variant with fewer calories is not to add various toppings, but just to mix in the composition of the American pancakes, before cooking, a few blueberries. Blueberries are also very healthy and give pancakes a sweet and sour taste. Another option that is better from a caloric and healthy point of view is to enjoy them with your favorite fruits. The more fruit, the better! In addition to these, you can also add some nuts, almonds, pistachios, or even candied fruits.

So hyper caloric toppings only occasionally :)) I also occasionally eat sweets. And this variant is suitable for guests. Blueberry, cherry or even quince jam is brilliant in combination with these pancakes. Speaking of quince jam, I have also prepared this delicacy and it is super good. I think it is the easiest jam to prepare. And being a sweetness reminiscent of childhood and a less common homemade jam, it will delight loved ones even more.
