Fish Soup

The best fish soup ever! All the ingredients used to prepare this soup balance the taste and give it a unique flavor. Most of us are skeptical when it comes to fish soup because in general in restaurants it tastes like mud (except for the sour one). And yes, we’re left with a taste of mud 🙂 and we don’t risk trying anything else. I did this too until my love cooked this goodness. It is a soup prepared with quality fish, giving the dish an indescribable flavor. It is that soup you can’t get enough of. Enjoy this culinary delight with the whole family!

Fish Soup


Vegetable stock with 1.5L water
2 onions, 2 medium potatoes, 1 carrot
1 sweet paprika and 1 red pepper
1 parsnip, 1 parsley root
Fish stock with 1.5L water
1200 g fish: salmon (500 g), 1 sea bream (400 g), Crap (300 g)
1/2 teaspoon of black pepper, ½ teaspoon of thyme, and 3 garlic cloves
500 ml sour cabbage juice or  100 ml of pickle vinegar
1 bunch of parsley


Both vegetable and fish stocks should be prepared at about the same time to save time.

Vegetable stock:

  1. Peel and chop the vegetables into large pieces to prepare the vegetable stock.
  2. Put the vegetables to boil in a large pot together with 1.5 L of water. Boil them on medium heat for 20 minutes.
  3. After the vegetables were cooked, turn off the heat and remove the vegetables from the stock on a wooden chopper. Cut the vegetables into small pieces, except the onion. I put the chopped vegetables back in the water in which they boiled.

Fish stock:

  1. In the meantime, wash the fish under cold water, clean it, and cut it into large pieces.
  2. In another pot, put the pieces of fish, including the head of the sea bream, to boil on low heat. Boil them for 20 minutes.
  3. After boiling the fish, remove it to a bowl and then strain the water to remove the bones and broken pieces. And so you get a clean and delicious fish stock.

Preparation of fish soup:

  1. Put together the fish stock and the vegetable one.
  2. After the fish cooled a bit in the bowl, take each piece separately and clean it from the bones. The fish chosen for preparing this delicious soup has large bones, so you don’t have to worry about wasting too much time with this process. It is important to have a clean soup without bones.
  3. In this process, try as much as possible to keep the pieces of fish as large as possible without breaking them up.
  4. Add all the deboned fish pieces to the final stock.
  5. Put the pot on low heat and added the cabbage juice, pepper, thyme, and the 3 cloves of garlic pressed or finely chopped.
  6. Cook the soup for another 10 minutes. Two minutes before turning off the heat, add the finely chopped parsley.

  • You can prepare the fish soup with any fish you want, but the combination of sea bream with salmon and carp is the best. I tried many combinations and made this soup in different ways. Therefore, we must choose fresh salmon. I choose a suitable sea bream, gut it and cut it into two pieces. I also use its head to prepare this fish stock. And the carp is indispensable, you can choose a smaller quantity for preparing the soup but there must be a piece because it is a fattier fish without which we cannot get a perfect soup.
  • The most important and indispensable step in cooking this fish soup recipe is to separate bones from meat fish. Removing as many bones as possible is important to enjoy a perfect culinary experience.
  • The cabbage juice must boil at the end together with the rest of the soup, otherwise, the flavors will not blend and the taste will be strange.
    It is a soup that is only served warm.

How do I store and how long can I keep the fish soup?

I wasn’t sure whether to write information about this process because this fish soup is so good. After all, I know for sure that it won’t last too long uneaten.

But still, it’s good to know all the details. Therefore, after it cools down. the fish soup must be transferred to a pot with a lid and can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

It’s okay if it becomes gelatinous after being refrigerated. It happens because of the combination of fat from fish and garlic. All you have to do is put the amount you are going to eat, heat it and it returns to its original form.

I admit that I would like to cook a delicious soup every week, but due to lack of time, this does not happen. Soups seem to be the best dishes because they contain a variety of vitamins and minerals. When preparing soups, I always try to use as many different vegetables as possible to give flavor to the dish and enjoy the health they offer to my body.
